DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The department is a subset of the academic structure of the prestigious Hebron College saddled with the responsibility of developing student's thinking and creative skills to solve mathematical problems. The trio of Mrs. Agunbiade, Mr.Muraina and Mr. Owolabi put heads together and designed a three phase plan:
Firstly, we adopted an interactive method of teaching allowing students participate more in classroom activities using teaching materials and learning aids. This helped students develop interest in the subject rather than hatred and phobia.  Our teachers attend mathematics workshops and seminars on a regular basis to keep up to date with teaching methods and materials pertaining to mathematics. Departmental meetings are held periodically to assess student's performance and share ideas that would help us in achieving our departmental goal  of hundred percent in Mathematics.

Secondly,we believe in teaching our students how to think rather than routinely following instructions without understanding their purpose. Hence, we provide additional tuition time on individual basis to students who lack confidence to ask questions in class. Quality examples, relevant exercises, assignments are given and corrections made  to enable students have a better understanding of topics taught in the class.   Furthermore, the "pyramidal club", a co- curriculum association was created as a platform for students to learn and grow in knowledge and understanding of the subject. In addition, mathematics quiz are held on a termly basis to discover geniuses and inspire the rest into becoming the best.

Thirdly, remedial classes are organised for students especially those in the certificate class. We are proud of our students performance in both internal and external examinations as well as competitions nationwide. We are planning to introduce the use of laptops and software to enable our students understand important mathematical concepts faster. Our desire is to accomplish what we are obliged to do with honesty, loyalty and passion.
